THE MESSENGER

Eliza Grey, a lonely, troubled university student, signs up for an unusual seminar that is intended to investigate on site the history of a haunted hunting lodge in the highlands of Nova Scotia. Originally constructed in the nineteenth century as a country home for a wealthy but eccentric American industrialist, Haven By the Sea has been abandoned for years because of several grisly deaths that seem to have a supernatural origin.

All the students in the seminar have been chosen for their paranormal abilities. Eliza is an empath. She possesses the ability to sense the emotions of others even when they hide their feelings. This gift has made her life a curse. She finds it almost impossible to endure intimate relationships with other human beings.

The leader of the group is the well known authority on the paranormal, Ebenezer Hale, who has given numerous lectures and written many books on the supernatural. He intends the investigation to be nothing more than an interesting experiment, but when the ancient evil within the walls of Haven awakes, he finds himself and his gifted students forced to use their extraordinary knowledge and abilities in a battle for their very lives.

This was my first published novel. My extensive practical knowledge of occultism and the paranormal has enabled me to inject into it an accuracy that is usually absent from novels dealing with supernatural themes. The book concludes with a brief essay on the historical basis for the various systems of magic described in its pages.

Since its publication in 1993 readers have sent numerous enthusiastic letters anxious to tell me how greatly they have enjoyed the experience of reading The Messenger. Many ask when I intend to write a sequel. I have yet to receive a single negative comment about this book. Those who have read it like it very much. The novel is presently out of print, but may still be available from some sources.
