A number of my books have been translated into foreign languages and brought out by publishing houses in South America, Europe and Japan. This is always a source of great satisfaction to me. Unless an author happens to be skilled in many languages, he has no way of knowing how accurate the translations of his works may be, but the quality of my foreign editions has been good. Some of these foreign-language editions are mentioned below.
In 1996 Aratron Publishers translated my first book, The New Magus into the Bulgarian language. Interest in this work has remained strong since its appearance in 1988.
In 1991 the Llewellyn edition of How To Make and Use A Magic Mirror was translated into Hungarian and published in that nation by Hatter Kft. I had the honor of being the first Llewellyn author translated into this language.
How To Make and Use A Magic Mirror is also popular in South America. In 1994 it was translated into Portuguese by Editorial Estampa. Presumably this edition is sold in Portugal as well as Brazil.
Editorial Estampa also brought out a Portuguese edition of my Ritual Magic in 1995 with an eye-catching but somewhat lurid cover showing a naked man lying face down inside a large chalk pentagram.
In 1991 Editorial Mirach of Madrid, Spain produced a Spanish language version of Rune Magic. I've received positive feedback on this title from readers in South America.
A hardcover edition of Tetragrammaton was published in April, 1998 in the Czech Republic by Volvox Globator. I was informed by one Czech reader that the quality of the translation is excellent. The book is quite handsome, with a grey marble pattern on the cover stamped with bold silver lettering.
In November, 1998, a Bulgarian publishing house purchased the rights to do a Bulgarian-languge translation of my novel The Tortuous Serpent.
The Spanish publisher Editorial Sirio did another Spanish edition of my book Rune Magic in 2003.
The year 2003 also saw a Russian-language editon of Scrying For Beginners published by Fair Publishing.
A Czech translation of Scrying For Beginners came out in 2004 from publisher Pavel Dobrovsky-Beta of the Czech Republic.
In 2005 a handsome little hardcover edition of my Necronomicon: The Wanderings of Alhazred was brought forth by the Japanese publisher Gakken Co. Ltd.
The Brazilian publisher Editora Madras did a Portuguese edition in 2007 of my Necronomicon: The Wanderings of Alhazred with an intimidating winged gargoyle on the cover.
